Actif at the Urdd Eisteddfod 2023

The Urdd Eisteddfod in 2023, an annual national festival for young people aged 25 years old and under, was staged in Carmarthenshire between Monday 29th May and Saturday 3rd June.

Actif Sport and Leisure - the local county council's sport and leisure department - had a great time in the sunshine working in partnership with Chwaraeon Yr Urdd and several other Welsh sporting organisations in the sports area.

During the week, we welcomed hundreds of children, young people and their families from all corners of Wales to take part in fun sports sessions, live fitness sessions and the pump track which proved popular. It was also a great opportunity to promote our initiatives and what we have to offer across the county.

Twenty of Actif's staff - from communities, facilities and marketing - worked at the Eisteddfod this week. Here's what was offered to the public on the maes:

Pump Track - The Actif ‘Pumptrack’ is the ultimate playground for wheeled sports, and the latest craze to sweep the outdoor recreation world; it is fun to ride and develops fitness, skills and co-ordination.

In Llandovery, the pump track saw children of all ages have a go over a total of 48 hours (Monday-Saturday) using bikes, scooters and balance bikes.

Actif Anywhere for Schools - The aim of Actif Anywhere for Schools is to get children active everyday through live-streamed physical activity sessions straight into the classroom and a range of ‘on-demand’ resources!

Live tutorials and demonstration of the platform was held at 9am-10am on Monday to Thursday mornings at the Carmarthenshire County Council marquee. There was also an opportunity to look behind the scenes of the resources available to school teachers and pupils.

Sports sessions - 8 hours and 8 different sports altogether per day... Alongside the Urdd in the sports area, our community officers and activity coaches delivered 1-hour netball and hockey sessions every day inside the inflatable perimeter, where children of all ages engaged and got involved.

Thank you to everyone who came over to see us on the maes over the last six-days.
