On Thursday 8th July, the Actif Communities East team supported the 'Cycle to School' event at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in a bid to get more children active!
As a Focus Sport for Carmarthenshire, it was pleasing to see over 60 pupils taking part and joining the 5-mile route to school, gaining some fresh air, exercise and taking in the scenery.
This proved to be a fantastic day encouraging children to travel to school using alternative ways, especially when the weather is kind!
PE teacher Mr Talfan Davies organised the event with the assistance of Actif Participate Officer Daniel Mason.
"It was fantastic to see pupils and staff from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman making the most of the opportunity to ride to school on their bikes, as part of the annual YDA Cycle to School Day, which proved to be a great success.
"Hopefully this will help promote and allow pupils and staff to change habits and embrace a new mode of transport, helping to improve personal wellbeing and having a positive effect on the local environment," said Mr Davies.
Ammanford Triathlon and Cycling Club (ATAC) were also on hand on the day to raise awareness of the club and cycling opportunities they offer as well as supporting by lending their expertise and managing road crossings to ensure student safety.
A huge thank you from Actif to everyone involved!
'Cycle to School Day' is an annual event held by the school and we are looking forward to being a part of it again next year and supporting similar initiatives as part of our Focus Sport Strategy with other schools across the county.
