Are you aged 14 year or older and looking to access opportunities to volunteer in sport?
In 2018, the Sport and Leisure team launched a new volunteer programme .
The programme provides training and development to people who want to make a difference in encouraging our communities to be more active.
The first phase of the Volunteer programme provides additional support for our swimming teachers in the delivery of our Learn to swim programme. By adding a fully trained volunteer to our workforce we are increasing the number of assistants in the pool, giving the children more confidence and opportunities to progress.
The volunteer programme is open to people aged 14 and above. Following a full recruitment and selection process, successful applicants receive full training in Safeguarding and Protecting Children training, and how to be a successful assistant in the water. A volunteer coordinator mentors them through their journey to ensure they have appropriate support.
Our current volunteers have found the experience invaluable; initially undertaking a 10 week placement, they have decided to continue as they were enjoying it so much. They love to see the difference they can make with the children who they help and they have made new friends.
The programme individuals a great opportunity to learn new skills and have fun, and gain confidence. It can also be the platform to paid employment for those volunteers who have excelled in their enthusiasm, flexibility and overall approach to their duties.
